- Dosage & Administration:
- Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of water.
- Dosage:
- The interval between doses should be 4 to 6 hours. For patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10ml/min), the minimum interval is 8 hours.
- Adults: Take 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. The duration of pain relief treatment should be limited to less than 3 days, and if adequate pain relief is not achieved, the patient/caregiver should consult a doctor for advice.
- Note: The maximum daily dose of Codein for pain relief is no more than 240mg/day. (Do not exceed 6 tablets of Panalgan® Codein in 24 hours).
- Children 12-18 years: The dose for pain relief is 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. If necessary, it can be increased up to a maximum of 240mg/day (8 tablets/day). The dose depends on body weight (0.5-1mg/kg).
- Children under 12 years: Panalgan® Codein is not recommended for pain relief due to the risk of opioid toxicity from unpredictable changes in the metabolism of Codein to morphine.
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.
- Children aged 0-18 years who have just undergone tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy to treat obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, as these patients have a high risk of serious and life-threatening adverse reactions.
- Children weighing less than 15 kg.
- Breastfeeding women.
- Patients who are ultra-rapid metabolizers of CYP2D6.
- Patients with severe liver disease, bronchial asthma, respiratory failure, kidney disease, heart disease, and patients with repeated anemia.
- Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
- Storage & Quality:
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature below 30°C, away from light.
