Cefaclor® 250

Composition: Cefaclor monohydrate equivalent to Cefaclor: 250 mg

Excipients: Sodium starch glycolate, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate

Dosage Form: Hard capsule
Packaging: Box of 10 blisters x 10 capsules
Indications: Treatment of acute otitis media, pharyngitis, pneumonia, and bronchitis caused by susceptible bacteria, especially after conventional antibiotics have failed: Acute otitis media, acute sinusitis, pharyngitis, recurrent tonsillitis. Pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.

Urinary tract infections: Uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections (cystitis)

Skin infections caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.

Information
  • Dosage & Administration:
    • The duration of treatment must be maintained for a minimum of 5-10 days.
    • The medication should be taken with food.
    • Dosage:
      • Adults and children (over 40 kg): Take 500-1000 mg/dose, twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection. Or take 1000 mg/dose once daily for skin and soft tissue infections and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
      • Children (under 6 years): Cefadroxil 500 mg capsules should not be used; an oral suspension formulation should be used instead.
      • Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is needed.
      • Elderly: Renal function should be checked and the dose adjusted as in patients with renal impairment.
      • Renal impairment: Treatment can be started with an initial dose of 500-1000 mg cefadroxil.
  • Contraindications:
    • Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.
    • Allergy to any cephalosporin.
    • History of severe allergy to any beta-lactam.
  • Storage & Quality:
    • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature below 30°C, away from light.
    • Shelf Life: 36 months from the manufacturing date.
