LEVOCEF® 500

Composition: Each film-coated tablet contains:

Levofloxacin hemihydrate equivalent to Levofloxacin: 500 mg

Excipients: Wheat starch, pregelatinized starch, povidone K30, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, talc, polyethylene glycol 6000, sunset yellow dye.

Dosage Form: Film-coated tablet
Packaging: Box of 1 blister x 10 tablets
Indications: Infections caused by bacteria sensitive to levofloxacin, such as: acute sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, prostatitis.

  • Indications & Usage:
    • Levocef 500 is indicated in adults for the treatment of the following infections:
      • Acute sinusitis.
      • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
      • Community-acquired pneumonia.
      • Skin and soft tissue infections.
      • Pyelonephritis and complicated urinary tract infections.
      • Chronic prostatitis.
      • Complicated cystitis.
      • Anthrax: post-exposure prophylaxis and treatment.
    • Because fluoroquinolone antibiotics, including levofloxacin, are associated with serious adverse reactions, this medication should only be used in patients who have no other alternative treatment options and for the following infections in certain patients who cannot be treated with other options: uncomplicated urinary tract infections; acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis; acute bacterial sinusitis.
  • Dosage & Administration:
    • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Can be taken during or between meals.
      • Levocef 500 tablets must be taken at least 2 hours before or after taking iron salts, zinc salts, antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, or didanosine (didanosine formulations with aluminum or magnesium-containing buffers) and sucralfate, as they may reduce drug absorption.
    • Dosage: The usual dose of Levocef 500 is 1-2 times daily, depending on the severity and causative agent of the infection.
  • Contraindications:
    • Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolones, or any component of the medication.
    • Epilepsy patients.
    • Patients with a history of tendinopathy related to fluoroquinolone use.
    • Children or growing adolescents.
    • Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Storage & Quality:
    • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature below 30°C, away from light.
    • Shelf Life: 36 months from the manufacturing date.
    • Quality Standard: Manufacturer’s Standard.
