- Urinary Tract Infections:
- Uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections:
- Adults: 1 Cotrimxazon 960 tablet every 12 hours for 10 days. Or a single-dose therapy: 2 Cotrimxazon® 960 tablets. However, a minimum of 3-day or 7-day treatment appears to be more effective.
- Children: 8 mg trimethoprim/kg + 40 mg sulfamethoxazole/kg, divided into 2 doses every 12 hours, for 10 days.
- Chronic recurrent urinary tract infections (adult women): A low dose (200 mg sulfamethoxazole + 40 mg trimethoprim daily, or 2-4 times that dose, taken once or twice a week) has been shown to reduce the number of recurrences.
- Uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections:
- Respiratory Tract Infections:
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: Adults: 1-1.5 Cotrimxazon® 960 tablets, twice daily, for 10 days.
- Acute otitis media, acute pneumonia in children: 8 mg trimethoprim/kg + 40 mg sulfamethoxazole/kg per 24 hours, divided into 2 doses every 12 hours, for 5-10 days.
- Strep throat: This medication should not be used.
- Gastrointestinal Tract Infections:
- Bacillary dysentery:
- Adults: 1 Cotrimxazon® 960 tablet every 12 hours for 5 days.
- Children: 8 mg trimethoprim/kg + 40 mg sulfamethoxazole/kg per 24 hours, divided into 2 doses every 12 hours, for 5 days.
- Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia:
- Children and adults: The recommended dose is 20 mg trimethoprim/kg + 100 mg sulfamethoxazole/kg per 24 hours, divided into equal doses every 6 hours, for 14-21 days.

- Contraindications:
- Severe renal impairment without plasma drug level monitoring; patients with megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency; hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or trimethoprim; infants under 2 months of age.
